Lecture on hate speech at the University of Belgrade

Mr. Hannes Tretter, Co-Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights

On 1 March 2016, the Austrian project leader of the BIM's current EU Twinning project in Serbia, Univ. Prof. Dr. Hannes Tretter held a lecture on hate speech at the Faculty of Law at the University of Belgrade. Mr. Tretter is the Co-Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights in Vienna and a distinguished expert in the fields of fundamental and human rights, public law, European and international law. The lecture was organized in cooperation with the Law Faculty of the University of Belgrade and its esteemed Prof. Ivana Kristić.

Successful completion of the Twinning project to strengthen the Ombudsman office and its regional offices in Macedonia

On 2 February 2016, the closing ceremony of the Twinning Light project to strengthen the Office of the Ombudsman and its regional offices took place at the EU Infocentre in Skopje. The event was organized by the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Macedonia in cooperation with the Austrian Ombudsman Board and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights.Among the speakers were Ixhet Memeti (Ombudsman and Project Leader, Macedonia), Dr. Gertrude Brinek (Ombudswoman and Project Leader, Austria), Aivo Orav (Head of Delegation of the EU to the FYR of Macedonia), Renate Kobler (Austrian Ambassador to Macedonia) and Dr. Peter Kastner (Senior Expert of the Austrian Ombudsman Board).

Final event and certification of the train-the-trainer programme in Kosovo

Equality Training Celebration

On October 23rd 2015, the final event and certification of the train-the-trainer programme for future Equality Trainers with a special focus on LGBTI-issues took place in Pristina as part of the EU-Twinning project against homophobia and transphobia.

The event was preceded by a two-day final training, conducted by training expert Karin Bischof and RTA Dieter Schindlauer and was supported by the legal experts Johanna Hautakorpi (FIN) and Geraldine Scullion (N-IRL).

Kick-off event of the Twinning project “Strengthening the capacities of the National Human Rights Council” in Rabat, Morocco

Driss El Yazami (President of the National Human Rights Council – CNDH / Conseil National des Droits de l’Homme) and Rupert Joy (Head of the EU Delegation to Morocco) chaired the high-ranking kick-off event held on 12 October 2015. Moreover, the ambassadors of the involved EU Member States and representatives from the partner organisations were present.

On the eve of the approval of Serbia’s Action Plan for Chapter 23, the EU and Serbia launched a new Twinning project to support the advancement of human rights and to increase tolerance in Serbia. The launching event took place on 19 October 2015 at Klub Poslanika in Belgrade.

Round Table and Study Visit of the Macedonian National Preventive Mechanism for the protection of human rights

Roundtable discussion in Skopje, 26 June 2015

On 26 June 2015, a Roundtable on the situation and challenges with undocumented migrants and asylum seekers in Macedonia took place in Skopje as part of the Twinning Light Project "Promotion of the Ombudsman competences and enhancement of its capacities". The event was organized by the Ombudsman Office of Macedonia in cooperation with the Austrian Ombudsman Board as well as the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights. It gathered international experts and representatives from both state authorities and civil society and enabled an exchange of knowledge and experiences between Macedonia and the EU.

On 19 May 2015, the kick-off event of the Twinning Light Project to promote the Office of the Ombudsman and its regional offices’ competences and capacities was held at the EU Infocentre in Skopje. The event was organized by the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Macedonia in cooperation with the Austrian Ombudsman Board and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights.
