Project implementation started with the kick-off meeting of the project partners Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights and Tian Shan Policy Centre of the American University of Central Asia on 24 February 2014 in Bishkek. During the week from 24 to 28 February 2014, the project partners strove to strengthen relations with future target groups and beneficiaries, as well as other actors active in the field of anti-torture. The aim was also to gather information on recent legal, social and institutional developments relevant for torture prevention in the country. On 25 – 27 February, the project team participated in a Round Table organised by the Tian Shan Policy Centre, the Soros Foundation and the Coalition against Torture Kyrgyzstan. Topics of discussion were: best-practice models of torture investigation mechanisms worldwide (TSPC research); the follow-up to recommendations made by the CAT Committee to the Kyrgyz Republic; strategy planning for the submissions to the UPR session 2014.
