New Publications: Monitoring prison Conditions in the EU: A Handbook Series for National Preventive MechanismP

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights, together with three European project partners, the Associazione Antigone, the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, and the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, have addressed how NPMs can effectively improve detention conditions across the EU in the framework of the EU-funded Project ‘Improving judicial cooperation across the EU through harmonised detention standards – The role of National Preventive Mechanisms’(2019–2021).

The article, published in the Utrecht Journal of International and European Law, assesses the role of civil society and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) in individual accountability proceedings by foreign domestic courts for the crimes committed against the Rohingya in light of the obstacles faced by Myanmar courts, the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
