FRA Report on Roma and Housing

A new FRA report on the housing conditions of Roma and travellers in the European Union was published in October 2009. According to the report findings, Roma and Travellers are still strongly disadvantaged in private and social housing throughout the European Union.

Many Roma and Travellers live in deprived housing conditions lacking supply with basic infrastructure, they face discrimination in access to housing, and forced evictions from municipal accommodation, and most of them (70%) do not know about the existence of legal means to combat discrimination in housing. Moreover segregation is existent in many EU Member States.

The comparative report has been published in October 2009 and can be found on the FRA Website as can the country reports of all EU member states.

The Austrian Focal Point has contributed the national study on Austria for the FRA comparative report.
