Round Table on protecting the rights of children in the criminal justice system and closed institutions in the Kyrgyz Republic

Within the framework of the project „Rule of Law in Kyrgyzstan – Phase 2”, a round table on the topic Protection of children's rights in the criminal justice system and closed institutions will take place in Bishkek on 18 September 2019. The event is organized by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights in cooperation with the Kyrgyz Public Prosecutor's Office and the public foundation Children's Rights Defenders League.

The round table is intended to create a platform for discussion on the juvenile justice system in Kyrgyzstan. The protection of the rights of children who have become victims and witnesses of crime as well as of children in conflict with the law are on the agenda.

Among the keynote speakers are Manfred Nowak, founder of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights (BIM), and Helmut Sax, BIM expert on children's rights.
Manfred Nowak will present the preliminary findings of the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty as independent expert leading the study. Study researcher Helmut Sax will lead the discussion on Children as crime victims and witnesses.
