Attack in Vienna: Our thoughts are with the victims, their relatives and the injured

We are deeply shocked by this week’s attack in the centre of Vienna. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, the injured and all those who witnessed this abominable act of violence. We wish all those who were injured a quick and complete recovery.

Free and constitutional societies are vulnerable and need individuals to support and defend them against terror. Let's stand together and defend our shared values by living without fear. and As a community, we stand up against all forms of radicalism and extremism.

The LBI for Fundamental and Human Rights is delighted to announce that the Institute is represented in the Executive Committee of the Association of Human Rights Insitutues (AHRI) by it's scientific director Michael Lysander Fremuth. Besides Fremuth, Manfred Nowak, co-founder of the Institute, is also part of the executive committee since September 11th, 2020.

The University of Vienna and the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft signed a partnership agreement on September 24th in order to continue the work of the "Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental- and Human Rights". With this agreement, the institutions bundle their expertise and underpin Vienna's status as “City of Human Rights”. Michael Lysander Fremuth, Professor for Fundamental- and Human Rights at University of Vienna, leads the Institute as scientific director. The ceremony also marked the renaming of the Institute into “Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Basic- and Human Rights”.

To generate knowledge on these questions, the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft has launched the initiative „Reden Sie mit! Was macht Corona mit unserer psychischen Gesundheit?“ (Let's talk!  What does Corona do to our mental health?).

1st Slovenian-Austrian Lawyers’ Day: Managing Migration and the Rule of Law

The 1st Slovenian-Austrian Lawyers' Day will take place at the University of Vienna (Juridicum) on 19 and 20 September 2019. Individual lectures on "Managing Migration and the Rule of Law" will reflect current challenges in the context of migration. In addition, the 1st Slovenian-Austrian Lawyers' Day will serve as a networking opportunity for Slovenian and Austrian law researchers and professionals.
