Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for Labour Exploitation

On the occasion of finalising a one-year research project on trafficking in human beings for the purpose labour exploitation funded by the European Commission and the Austrian Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, the University of Tilburg organised a conference on 8 April 2011.

During the morning session of the conference several presentations of experts were given, inter alia a presentation on Eu migration policy and labour exploitation held by Prof. van der Leun (Leiden University) as well as on the role of trade unions held by Jeroen Beirnaert (International Trade Union Confederation). In the afternoon the results of the research in the five participating countries (Austria, The Netherlands, Spain, Serbia and Romania) have been discussed in smaller workshops. The results about Austria have been presented by Julia Planitzer (Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights).

At the end of the conference the final publication of the research project has been presented. The book 'Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for Labour Exploitation', published by Wolf Publishers, contains all five country reports, a comparative analysis, a report on the EU legislation and further scientific articles.

The book can be ordered at Wolf Publishers. A PDF version of the Austrian report is available for download.
