Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) "The EU and Human Rights”: new opportunity to participate

Based on the research project „FRAME – Fostering Human Rights Among European Policies“, the Centre for Global Governance Studies at the University of Leuven (Belgium) offers the FREE Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) The EU and Human Rights for the third time as of October 2017.

This online course teaches the basics of human rights, placing the EU at the centre of investigation. The EU is a major global actor in the field of human rights. EU Treaties state that human rights are a fundamental value of the Union, which must be a silver thread in all its policies. The EU now acts within an impressive array of competences, and therefore has the potential to impact – positively or negatively – anyone’s human rights.

The course draws on the findings of the FRAME project, which was concluded in a large international conference in April 2017 and which also the BIM had substantially contributed to over the past four years. Researchers from different European partner institutions - among them Monika Mayrhofer from the BIM's Anti-Discrimination, Diversity and Asylum team - share their expertise and their insights gained during the project in the different MOOC modules. With over 12 000 students from 175 countries during the first two rounds, the MOOC has proven an important outreach tool and was found as ground-breaking by the Community Research and Development Information Service.

Held in English language, the course is available on the edX platform. To enrol please click here. Participation is free of charge.

This course is offered in partnership with Kiron Open Higher Education and the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI).
