Between 23 April (World Book Day) and 9 May (Europe Day) the main event series on Citizenship Education in Austria invites this year already for the 15th time with more than 200 activities to participate. The Citizenship Days are an annual nationwide campaign, initiated by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education and coordinated by polis – The Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools which is located at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights. The campaign aims to raise and strengthen public awareness of Citizenship Education and Human Rights Education.
Numerous educational institutions and other actors offer a broad range of workshops, seminars, trainings, school projects, exhibitions, movie screenings, theatre performances, radio features, online activities etc. to students, teachers and multipliers as well as the broad public. Topics include democracy, human rights and children’s rights, the European Union and the Council of Europe, gender equality, participation, media and communication, diversity, inclusion and many more. The kick-off event of the Austrian Citizenship Days will take place on 24 April 2017 in the Demokratiewerkstatt of the Austrian Parliament. Pupils from 9th grade on as well as interested teachers and students are invited to learn interactively about the positions of the current parliamentary parties and their candidates. polis is responsible for organizing this event together with the Demokratiewerkstatt and neuwal.com.
