TURKEY: Public Kick-Off Event in Ankara of Twinning Project on Gender Equality

The German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human (BIM) rights jointly implement the EU Twinning Project 'Promoting Gender Equality in Working Life' with the Turkish Ministry for Labour and Social Security.

The bilateral partnership project has officially started in the middle of September 2010. Meanwhile legal experts from Austria and Germany came in for several missions and a public kick-off event took place in Ankara on 1 December 2010 with more than 150 guests.

Karin Lukas, Austrian Project LeaderRepresentatives of the project partner institutions introduced the project and its objectives and talked about gender equality in the international and European context. Karin Lukas, Junior Partner Project Leader (JP PL) and team leader at the BIM, gave a lecture on the status quo in the realization of gender equality in Turkey and the European Union and pointed out the importance of the endeavour to support gender equality as indispensable ingredient in a democratic society (PDF for download below).

Several journalists from different media followed the invitation to the project’s kick-off meeting, which led to further interviews and press releases in the course of the next days.
