On 9 May 2012 the Austrian NGO forum Frauen:Rechte jetzt! - NGO Forum CEDAW in Österreich (women's rights:now) presented the new Austrian CEDAW shadow report. The UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women is one of the most important instruments to achieve gender equality in all spheres of life. CEDAW prohibits discrimination of women and obliges States Parties to implement measures for achieving not only legal but also de facto equality.
30 years ago Austria ratified CEDAW and is therefore obliged to submit reports on the implementation of CEDAW every four years. In April 2011 Austria had to submit the combined 7th and 8th state report on CEDAW. The CEDAW shadow report of the Austrian NGO forum Frauen:Rechte jetzt! - NGO Forum CEDAW in Österreich (women's rights:now) complements the state report and was elaborated by Austrian NGOs and experts. Also the BIM contributed to the shadow report.
Further Information on the shadow report can be found (in German) on the website of Austrian NGO forum Frauen:Rechte jetzt! - NGO Forum CEDAW in Österreich . English translation of the shadow report will follow soon.
