The documentary tells the story of Djamel Ameziane, an Algerian citizen, who has been held in Guantánamo Bay without charge since 2002. In 2008 he was cleared for release since 2008, but has remained in the detention camp until today. He continues to be held because of congressional legislation restricting the transfer of men from Guantánamo, and the White House’s failure to use the limited certification process established by the legislation to transfer detained men. Djamel cannot return to Algeria and is in need of a safe third country in which to rebuild his life. Today, he remains imprisoned, dehumanised and given a number: Internment Serial Number (ISN): 310.
The conference - which takes place at the Hertie School of Governance from the 23rd-24th of May 2013 - aims to explore the capacity for collective actors, such as NGOs or other bodies representing collective interests, to enforce EU law.
The world conference on human rights took place 20 years ago, but where are we at now? Even though there have been numerous accomplishments, human rights violations still take place every day around the world. But what instruments are necessary for prosecuting human rights violations consequently?

On May 13th 2013 an event about the question of who we are allowed to take a photograph of is taking place at the Juridicum in Vienna. This debate will focus on whether professionals and individuals are only allowed to take photographs of people after asking them for permission first.

Sabine Mandl, BIM's women's rights expert, discusses with experts on gender, diversity, critical men's studies and development cooperation about a common understanding of gender mainstreaming.

The Sir Peter Ustinov Institute is organising a conference on "Resentment and conflict - prejudices and concepts of enemies in times of change". Taking part on behalf of the BIM is Manfred Nowak who will moderate Panel V - "Opportunities and limits of problemsolving".
In cooperation with ECPAT Austria and LexisNexis, the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights elaborated two expert opinions on questions concerning assistance to and identification of victims of child trafficking as well as concerning the criminal responsibility of perpetrators. The expert opinions are presented at ACTnow - Anti-Child-Trafficking (in German), moderated by Dr. Eric Frey (Der Standard). Manfred Nowak, Helmut Sax and Barbara Weichselbaum are on the panel.
