In accordance with its approach of active and practice-oriented science the BIM is engaged in the EU integration policy, primarily in the context of EU enlargement, but increasingly also in the context of the European neighbourhood policy. Using scientific know-how the institute dedicates itself to political counselling and research on the EU acquis communautaire and on EU "good practices" with regard to human rights, rule of law and "good governance".

(c) Bundesministerium für InneresThe crucial training phase of the EU Twinning project between Austria, Germany and Turkey started on 6 May 2013. The project aims at enhancing the implementation capacity of the Turkish National Police to prevent disproportionate use of force. For this end standard operating procedures will have to be amended.

Successful Data Protection Twinning contributes to the start of EU accession negotiations with Montenegro

Final Event in PodgoricaOn 28th June 2012 the final event of the Twinning project “Implementation of Personal Data Protection Strategy” with the participation of high-level data protection experts and diplomats from Austria and Slovenia, representatives of the EU delegation, project stakeholders and project members and Montenegrin experts and decision makers was held in Podgorica.

Kick-off event “Establishing a comprehensive system for anti-discrimination protection”

Kick-off ceremony in the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia, 24.01.2012On 24.01.2012, the kick-off event for the Twinning project “Establishing a comprehensive system for anti-discrimination protection” took place in Zagreb at the premises of the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia. Among others, Ambassador Paul Vandoren, Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Croatia, Mr Josip Leko, Vice-President of the Croatian Parliament, Mr Jurica Malčić, the Ombudsman, Mr Luka Mađerić, Head of the Government’s Office for Human Rights and Mr Hannes Tretter, scientific director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights, and Barbara Liegl, Resident Twinning Adviser, gave a speech.

Gender Equality in Working Life - Turkish Delegation in Vienna

Expert meeting, Federal ChancelleryAs Junior Partner to the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in the Twinning project “Promoting Gender Equality in Working Life” the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights organized a study visit for 11 Turkish civil servants from 24th to 28th October 2011. Comprising numerous meetings with Austrian experts the study visit enabled the participants to exchange intensively with their interlocutors on issues of gender equality in working life.
